Now here is a real bulletin:

Would you fly with a brand new private pilot that only had less than 60 hours flying time? Personally, I would take a pack mule rather take a chance with my life. However, at least nine (9) very brave Cubberley souls put their lives into my hands for a flight in the Cessna 172 from the Palo Alto airport.

Jack Steffen 6-28-59
Jim Bishop 8-3-59
Rich Tenney 8-6-59
Shibun Tana 8-11-59 *
Mike Nichols 8-11-59 *
John Boyd Edwards 8-25-59
Lucien Mille 10-11-59
Bill Burnley 10-31-59
Ray Winslow 12-26-59
Milton Lamansky6-5-60

* This flight was eventful in that we weren’t sure we could clear a mountain ridge with the oil temperature in the red band (engine failure eminent). After we cleared the ridge and the engine power reduced, I recall Mike saying a most famous quote, “that was a little scary.”

You can all relax now, I have more flying time.

School Story:

I will never forget our loss to MA by one touchdown and having to share the championship with Redwood City.

Coolest Thing you ever did:

So many in flying that there is not enough space here.

What do you do for fun?

Since retirement I referee high school football and have just physically finished building my house in the middle of a forest.

What was your yearbook blurb? Did you do what you planned?

"Terry" or "Higgy" - an Irish sense of humor - like the Carlmont "Y" dances - paper plane producer - would like to become a pilot - had fun with football in the fall.

Outcome:

I did indeed become a pilot with over 16,000 jet hours. I flew the T-37, T-33, F-101B, F102A, Boeing 727, and Boeing 747. My wife won't me let go to any dances by myself. All of my children have produced great flying paper airplanes with my help. I still enjoy football.

Will you attend the reunion?

Yes
