Talked with Diana Delles this morning and she is doing well and is planning to attend the reunion. She does not have a computer so the phone is the best way to contact her. She lives in Yucca Valley CA which is close to Palm Springs.

Something to ponder;

Why is it at class reunions, you feel younger than everybody else looks?

Thanks Jan, for bringing me back down to earth!

Well, if there is such a thing as "selective memory," surely there must also be "selective vision." Works for me, anyway!

Just me again, but I just took another look at the "Who's Coming List," and am hoping that the other "maybe's" will keep checking the web page, and when they see just how many are attending, and who they are, and "maybe" will change their mind and show up!

The memorbelia table sounds like a good idea, I'll bring some things. The only problem is that I can only be there for the Friday afternoon/evening gathering. Can we have a table set up there???......Let me know!

I also have pictures from 1st grade thru 6th grade at Mayfield school............

Merry Christmas to all my wonderful classmates and your families.
I hate to say this because time moves fast enough as it is but healthwise I am glad to see this year end. It has been a fairly bad year for me but I am happy to tell ya'll that two weeks ago my prayers were answered and we finely found the right combination of meds for me and for the first time in a very long time I feel pretty good. I need both knees replaced and minor back surgery done but part of my pain problems are from a very simple surgery that my surgeon botched and I am now very frightened of having any more surgeries. So as long as I can keep the pain bearable I am going to put it off. I am so thankful that 25 years ago my Lord gave me a sit down job, one that I love, so I am able to still work. Mother worked until she was 71 and I'm gonna out do her. She, by the way, is still on Moreno Avenue and doing very well for being 88 years young.
And weather wise I hope 2010 is better for us. We live on the highest hill in Atlanta but our back yard slopes down towards the back of the house and with the HEAVY rains we had, for the first time since we moved in this house in 1972, we got flooded, TWICE!!! The first time was not to bad and we were able to save the flooring but the ground was so soaked when we got the 8 inches in 3 hours the rain had no place else to go but in our house. We are now walking on our foundation and of course we don't want to put new flooring down until we can get the back yard graded cause we certainly do not want this to happen again. And of course, living on a hill which is not in a flood zone, we have no flood insurance! Hey, does anyone know when we get to the golden years? I think I must have slept through mine:)
Our oldest granddaughter got married (beautiful wedding) so now we have two wonderful grandsons. He teaches and coaches at the middle school and she is still going to college so she can teach.
Harvey's PSA count is still low so what cancer they could not remove is not growing. Thank you Lord.
I always tell my daughter-n-laws they need to be with their Mom's on the actual holiday so our family will get together New Years weekend. I am on vacation the last week of this year so that will work out great.
Diane: Thanks so much for all you do to keep this web site going. You are a woman of great strength. I know I speak for all my classmates. We appreciate you very much!
Again, I pray each and every one of you have a very blessed Christmas. Remember, HE is the reason for this beautiful season!
Much love to all of you. Kathy

Well, this is really the lazy way out, but I do want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, and a new year filled with good times, and good health.

I had every intention of making some sort of card for all, but here we are and it is still undone.

Winter got off to a slow start here, but has more than made up for it. Plenty of snow/ice, lots of low temps day and night, and lots of people who haven't a clue how to drive in these conditions. We have had several bad accidents involving people who just aren't prepared for conditions here. Most were just enough to give them a bad scare, but there were a couple that involved Life Flights to other hospitals. Thankfully all but one came through OK.

It is a beautiful place, but sight-seeing is for those who are not in motion on the roadways.

I wish all of you who are traveling, a safe trip to your destination and home again.

We survived 2009 and are looking forward to a healthy 2010. It has been a busy time since the reunion. Another cancer surgery for my 89 year old mother in August, our first grandson born in September, a busy work project in October, a 90th birthday party for my mother and Thanksgiving in November and now to December. We are planning on driving back to Las Vegas (we were there earlier this month for the rodeo), where our daughter, husband and their children live, for Christmas. Looking forward to some warmer weather. Northern Nevada got dumped on two weeks ago (very unusual)and we are still driving in slush, ice and snow piled in the yards and some unplowed roads.
It was so great seeing so many of you at the reunion. Seems like just yesterday. It has been fun keeping in contact via email with former classmates. Thanks Diane for keeping us all in contact via the web.
Wishing you all Happy, Healthy, Holidays.

I also want to wish you all a Happy New Year. I had a great time at the Reunion, continued on from there for a two day visit with my brother and his wife (Mike and Sherry Hunt), I drove to Redding to see my Grandchildren, then back to San Jose to meet my sister in the San Jose Airport, we both caught a plane to San Diego where we visited my niece and her twins for their third birthday. The weather was hot in all those places, I was grateful to drive back to Oregon...nice cool, green, Oregon...my son had moved to Oregon in May, he worked on remodeling my garage into an apartment for himself...took about 5 months.. I left again in October to go on a 14 day cruise to the Black Sea, Greece, Turkey, Ukraine, etc. Wonderful time, went with a small group of people from Newport Oregon. Mostly women, several were widows like me. Came back home to a completed remodel. It has been nice having my son near by, he is adjusting to cooler weather. He is a contractor, with a license in California...will be getting his license here. I decided not to drive to California for Christmas holidays. Lots of snow in the mountains, I decided to fly to San Jose for 4 days. My brother has a yearly Christmas luncheon, so got to see alot of my nieces, nephews, etc. Came home to have Christmas with my son. So, now we are into 2010...now sure what this year will hold for me, but always have a positive attitude...Take Care....Sandy

Wanted to let ya'll know that I just received a very sad note from Chris (George) Carver. Her Mother passed away Sunday the 21st. Exactly a week before Chris's 68th birthday. Remember her in your prayers. Kathy

While I didn’t see Jimmy or Mike frequently over the years, we made it a point to meet at least once a year and I always felt as though our relationship then was even better that it was when we were in school together. For the last 20 years a group of us spent a few days each year at Jimmy’s Lake Tahoe condo. Last October, Jimmy, Mike, Abe Baily, Jim Gould (a year behind us at Cubberley) and I were able to spend a couple of days together visiting. Even though Jimmy said his hip was bothering him we were all in good spirits and enjoyed the camaraderie of friendships going back almost 70 years (Jimmy and Mike even longer).

Abe is happily married and living in Chico where he held many important positions during a long career with the University there. Jim Gould, a widower, was a consultant to the airline industry living in Humboldt County for many years. He now resides  in Portland where he is near his daughter. My wife and I never got very far away from Palo Alto and now live in Menlo Park. We are fortunate to have all our children and grandchildren living nearby.

Like all of you I was saddened to hear of Mike’s passing in December. I was a little surprised since for someone our age he was doing well only a couple of months earlier. When Mike retired from the San Jose PD he and his family moved to the foothills northeast of Fresno. They lived in a new home on several acres. One year Jimmy and I stayed at Mike’s while the three of us fished in the Sierras south of Yosemite. I remember Mike telling me at the time that he and his wife, Sylvia, planted over one hundred trees on their property – whew! Jimmy and I slept in their one outbuilding which was Mike’s man cave. It looked like a sports bar inside with a pool table and other games. This was long enough ago that the three of us could stay up late at night drinking beer and telling the same old stories about high school sports, girls, and hi-jinx. For one or two years after college Mike was invited to the Pittsburgh Steelers football training camp. He didn’t make the roster, but always cherished the experience. That explained why Mike had a large Pittsburgh Steelers logo beautifully plastered into the bottom of his swimming pool…it was very impressive. A few years ago Mike and Sylvia moved to Fresno to be closer to their daughter, Layla, and son, Michael. Michael followed in his father’s footsteps and is with the Fresno PD. When Sylvia told us Mike wanted to be buried at Alta Mesa Cemetery, Jimmy said he would be honored if he could give them a burial plot he had purchased years ago when his father died and he wasn’t going to use. Mike’s memorial service was held at Alta Mesa in January where there was a SJPD honor guard. Abe and his wife, Jim Gould and I and my wife attended the ceremony. Don Scott who was a year ahead of us at Cubberley and a Deacon in the Palo Baptist Church (I think) did a beautiful job speaking. Also at the ceremony were Connie Stevenson who was a year behind us in school and Ray Hamm who was with us at Wilbur Jr Hi.

When we were together in October it seemed as though Jimmy thought his pain was from a bad hip in need of replacement. When I saw him in late December Jimmy was in a lot of pain, but I mistakenly chalked it up to a bad hip. While it made sense after I thought about it, I was shocked when I first heard about his advanced cancer only a few weeks later. Jimmy worked at the Palo Alto Veterans Hospital laboratory. One thing I remember him enjoying during those years was playing in an adult soccer league. Also, he liked kayaking which he did at Lake Tahoe and (if I remember correctly) with Jim Gould in the ocean off the Humboldt County coastline…brr. When Jimmy retired, he and Nancy moved to a wooded area in Nevada City where they had a large house that could accommodate their children and grandchildren as well. He enjoyed spending time repairing his cars and trucks and with his chain saw cutting firewood. Initially Nancy split her time between Nevada City and their home in Palo Alto before eventually joining Jimmy full time in Nevada City. I’m pretty sure Jimmy’s family are planning a celebration of his life in the Palo Alto area in 2 - 3 months or so. If I hear anything I will post it here because I know he would like you to celebrate with his family.

We knew how fortunate we were growing up in Palo Alto in the 1950s, and that included spending our high school years with our classmates at Cubberley. I was constantly amazed at the breadth of friendships both Mike and Jimmy had with so many of you, and how fondly they spoke about their time with you. In high school we knew they were both great athletes, but I have realized over the years that they were even better friends.
