Michael Slinger

===============

We are sad to report that our classmate Mike Slinger passed away unexpectedly on October 2, 2017. This information is taken from his family’s obituary:

Mike was born January 26, 1941 to Eveline and Arvil Woodhead in Murray Utah. He grew up in Palo Alto and graduated from Cubberley High School in 1959.  After graduation he joined the Army and served in Germany until 1961. He returned to the Bay Area and began his career as a Police officer for Stanford University and then an Engine driver for the Stanford Fire Department.  He moved into construction and then became a well-respected building inspector for the city of Palo Alto.

Once he retired, Mike continued to serve the community by collecting perishable food donations for numerous food banks in Palo Alto. He enjoyed taking painting and watercolor classes with his wife Karin, woodworking, fishing trips and gardening. He loved to cook for his family and his greatest pride and joy was being Papa and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Karin, they were married 57 years, and they first met in the 4th grade. They made a wonderful life together raising 4 children, Michael Todd Slinger, Julie Slinger Huckaby, Lisa Billings, and Jennifer Slinger Davis, along with five grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren and his brother Bill Slinger. Mike was known to all his friends and colleagues as a man with great integrity and willingness to help others. He was a generous man, always there to assist and teach with a home repair.  He was much loved by family, friends and co-workers.

A family celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
