John Toby Steers was born in Walnut Creek in 1941.  The family moved to Miami and then New York, returning to Palo Alto, California in 1950.  After graduating from Cubberley in 1959, Toby attended Colorado College and San Jose State.  He graduated from San Jose State majoring in mathematics.  He married Lynn Bondurant (Cubberley 1962).  They had two children, Justin Todd Steers now of Lake Oswego, OR and Jennifer Paige Savage now of Belmont, CA.  Following a divorce and some years later, Toby remarried.  He worked in computer sciences all his life, spending the bulk of his years in Houston, TX with Control Data Corp. doing operating systems development on CDC’s cyro-cooled, superfast computer, followed by a few years with Unisys Corp in Burnsville, MN.  He loved and was a whiz at electronic games of all kinds, puzzles (Rubics Cube?.....easy) board games,mathematical games, chess and bridge.   He was a good blues and rock piano player and loved sports cars and auto racing.  Toby died of cancer in Burnsville, MN in 1990 at age 49.
